Engineering @ Google AR

Greetings, I'm Mike Gao.

I’m a Software Engineer who believes that computing's powerful interdisciplinary potential can allow for truly objective analysis of society's most pressing problems. In fulfilling this promise, creators have an opportunity to create tools to master the world around us and - in doing so - ourselves.

I'm currently working on special projects at Google AR and am most interested in the study of compiler techniques, computer graphics, and embedded device developments.

While much of my work is necessarily confidential, I am no stranger to hardware applications or software development and relish the opportunity to work alongside some of the industry's most innovative professionals to bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds.

Before joining Google's team, I contributed to the development of AAA games at Eidos Montreal, event driven trading at DRW, and face recognition systems at Baidu.

In 2022, I graduated from McGill University with First Class Honors. I now reside in Canada, although I was born and reared in Shanghai and educated in the US at Choate Rosemary Hall, where I received a Distinction in Computer Science.

Outside of the coding paradigm, I take great enjoyment in pursuit of the good life and the edification of my mind. While a plethora of activities are conducive to these ends, the most fulfilling avenues I've explored include swimming recreationally, traveling to exotic locations around the world, indulging the study of legal texts, and testing my investment theses on the global financial markets.

Additionally, while at leisure I enjoy contemplating original solutions to neglected problems; this predilection has kept me out of trouble, for the most part...
